The Collins Dictionary named it the word of the year for 2025, and by February 2026, it was even moving markets: SaaS companies lost around $285 billion in market value within 48 hours, triggered by the question of whether AI agents and vibe coding would soon make traditional software subscriptions obsolete. Wall Street now calls this the "SaaSpocalypse."

What exactly is no-code, and how has it evolved?
No-code is not a new phenomenon. Visual development platforms began changing the market around 2018. Those who explored it back then often faced skepticism: the tools were considered toys, suitable at best for prototypes or MVPs. Tools like Webflow, monday.com, or Make were still in their infancy, and many companies watched from the sidelines with a smirk.
That has changed fundamentally. As demand for no-code solutions grew, these platforms expanded massively. AI meets no-code: How AI has been integrated into platforms
Before we get to vibe coding, it is worth looking at a development that connects both worlds: the integration of AI into no-code tools.
The first step was not particularly spectacular: Teams began using ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini for their daily no-code work -as a research tool, for interface questions, and for brainstorming.
The second step was more interesting: AI was integrated directly into workflows. In monday.com, for example, you can upload a document and have data automatically extracted into columns - a task that previously required manual human effort.
The third step: No-code platforms themselves began integrating AI into their own toolsets and this step has accelerated even further since the beginning of 2026. The launch of Anthropic’s Claude Cowork, a system capable of autonomously performing knowledge work, was the exact trigger for the SaaSpocalypse. However, the limitation remains the same: while there are millions of books and forum posts on traditional coding, there is hardly any public knowledge on how to optimally structure a monday.com board. That expertise still resides in the minds of experienced consultants.
What is vibe coding, and how seriously should we take it in 2026?
On February 3, 2025, Andrej Karpathy - co-founder of OpenAI and former head of AI at Tesla - wrote a post on X that garnered millions of views. He described a new way of programming that involves "vibing with it, embracing exponential growth, and forgetting that code exists." He called it vibe coding - originally intended for "throwaway weekend projects."
The term has since taken on a life of its own. What was just a buzzword in 2025 is now a daily reality in software development in 2026: 92% of US developers now use AI coding tools daily, and about 41% of all code written today is considered AI-generated. The market for vibe coding platforms is valued at approximately $4.7 billion in 2026, with annual growth rates exceeding 38%. Notably, 63% of users are still non-developers building their own apps and UIs.
The crucial difference from no-code remains
In vibe coding, human language is the new programming language. An AI model generates actual code - theoretically without any limitations, but also without the safety nets and governance provided by an established platform. No-code, by contrast, works with pre-built, vetted components - the platform defines what is possible and assumes responsibility for security and maintenance.
The trust paradox: Why even developers don't trust their own code
What was a footnote in 2025 has become the central tension in the market in 2026: 92% of developers use AI coding tools daily, but only 29% trust the code these tools produce. Trust has fallen from around 40% to 29% within a single year. At the same time, a Stanford study shows that developers using AI tools tend to write less securely structured code - while simultaneously feeling more confident that it is secure.
This aligns with structural analyses: out of 1,645 publicly accessible Lovable apps, 170 had critical security vulnerabilities - open database access, exposed API keys, and missing authentication. This is no reflection on the people who built these apps. It is a structural problem: If you don't know these risks exist, you can't account for them.
